The Sanibel Arms Vacation Guide

Learn About Local Wildlife and Acquire New Skills With Sanibel Sea School's New Offerings

vacation rental

When you reserve one of our Sanibel Island condos for a vacation, you'll never have the chance to be bored. Although 52% of people say they feel more rested and relaxed when they return from a vacation, your trip doesn't have to be all RandR. In Sanibel, there's no shortage of fun activities to participate in and events to attend.

While our weekly vacation rentals give you instant access to the island's pristine beaches, you and your family may want to learn a bit more about local wildlife, acquire new skills, or try a different form of recreation while you're here. One of the best places to accomplish all three of these is at the Sanibel Sea School. From weekly summer camps for kids to daily programs for adults and large groups, you can learn all about local wildlife and try your hand at fishing, bird watching, and even glass art creation.

New this year to the school's offerings are standup paddleboarding classes, which allow participants to explore the beauty of the gulf in a whole new way.

Sanibel Sea School Outdoor Educator Spencer Richardson told CaptivaSanibel.com, "We wanted to offer standup paddleboard classes because... [standup paddleboarding] allows us to interact with our environment in a different way than just being on the beach, or on a boat. You get this great viewpoint on top of this standup paddleboard and you are not scaring away a lot of the wildlife with a big boat engine. You just get this really nice connection with the water when you are on a standup paddleboard."

These two-and-a-half hour classes cover all the basics and will allow participants to travel through a mangrove forest. The calm water allows attendees to become even more familiar with Sanibel's array of marine life and protected beaches.

Richardson said, "We get to explore the mangroves and why they are important to this area. We will talk about estuaries, since we will be apart of the estuary there. We will get to explore all of the nature that we find there, all of the animals that we find in that area," which include fish and crabs, and even manatees and dolphins.

The school also recently opened its registration for their week-long summer camps for kids and teens.

Of course, you won't ever be too far from all of our unique wildlife when you stay in one of our weekly vacation rentals. But if you want to learn more about these amazing creatures, the Sanibel Sea School is a great place to start. No matter how you choose to spend your vacation, we guarantee you'll have the time of your life.
